The Yellow-headed Blackbirds return to this secluded reed island in southern Minnesota where it mates and uses suspended nests deep down in the reeds often over open water. This is a classic pose as the birds sing their song like the sound of a screechy opening/closing farm gate, dramatically tossing their heads back over the shoulder.
I set out to rejuvinate my art interests in 2009, when physical set backs limited much of my other activity. My passion for art has carried through in the past as an illustrator and photographer. Due to physical limitations I found a happy medium in pastels, a medium I could work spontaneously yet allow me to walk away from a project with no repercussions. I have focused on subject matter not only familiar to me, but feeling a close relationship to, that being wildlife, landscape while occasionally dabbling in portraiture. I am constantly experimenting with technique and feel my style is evolving over time. When I am not at my easel painting I spend time teaching pastel and composition.

Thanx for wading through the images Maria! I have waded through marshes, infested with wood ticks, woods filled with mosquito's, prairie's buzzing with flies and gnats to get reference images to paint these marvelous creatures with no regrets. Very happy you appreciate my efforts.
